Petoskey Opportunities

Printing Pressman

Position Summary: Works with the First pressman who together are responsible for the overall operation of the Press in accordance with operating procedures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

– Prepare the press for printing. This may involve many presets that the specific job requires. The paper must be loaded and plates must be mounted on the press. The 2nd Pressman may be the one to perform this duty but the Pressman must be able to perform this task in place of the person assigned to do them. Ink settings or setting up press for specific paper sizes are also under the press operator’s supervision.

– Operating the Press. While the press is running, the pressman makes all decisions as to what is acceptable and unacceptable. The press operator also takes the lead in solving problems and working with other team members to find solutions to issues as they arise. The pressman also keeps the printing press supplied with any materials in order to keep running such as ink, paper, or fountain solution.

– Load jobs on the computer for printing.

– Pulling skids of paper out with the pallet jack.

-Takes maintenance seriously. While there is downtime, whether it is planned or unplanned, the press operator keeps the machine in good working order through preventative maintenance.

 

Qualifications:

– High School diploma or equivalent.

– To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  

– Ability to troubleshoot. This is the foremost quality in a press operator. They take full responsibility for the printed product. They need to be able to discern where a problem may be originating.

– A trainer. The press operator must be able to teach others the skill.  

– Handles pressure well. Offset printing is a deadline-driven environment. The pressman must be able to handle the pressure and still deal with others in a respectful way.

– Knows quality standards. Offset printing does not produce perfect products. Every good pressman knows there is always something to improve in the process. They understand the acceptable and unacceptable product and quality and are checking on a regular basis. A good pressman produces good quality and abides by the quality standards as set by his manager.

– While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand.  

– The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch while performing duties.  

– Must have the ability to bend, lift, and/or move up to 50 pounds.  

 

Hours:

– Monday – Friday 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

– Overtime and weekend when needed.

– Willingness to work 1st shift when needed.

Maintenance & Production Specialist

Position Summary: Provide support to all areas in the prepress, press, and bindery production areas. Perform maintenance of various equipment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

– Ability to work in any working department in the production area as an assistant to lead department person.

– Read job ticket instructions and help plan work staging for area

– Assist with job setup, job run and job completion in any capacity as assigned by the lead operator

– Able to work independently

– Job delivery

– Assist in building maintenance as needed and directed by manager

– Transport/stage product on floor with hand trucks

– Help maintain a neat and orderly work area

– Be a back up to areas as assigned

– Cover second shift duties as necessary

– All other duties as assigned by Production Manager

 

Qualifications:

– High School diploma or equivalent

– Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity

– Ability to lift 40lbs.

– Some work stations require extensive ability to twist and bend  

– Ability to stand and walk for almost all assigned duties

– Ability to work well with others 

– Forklift operator license

– Chauffer’s or Commercial Driver’s license

– Second Shift flexibility

 

Hours:

– Monday – Friday 7:00AM – 3:00 PM

– Overtime and weekend when needed.

– Willingness to work 2nd shift when needed.
